Nutritional requirements for conception and pregnancy are quite different to those for general health and weight management. There is a growing body of evidence showing the positive impact of the correct nutritional support pre-conception on both male and female fertility and the subsequent benefits for laying the foundation for a healthy pregnancy and baby.
There is much conflicting advice regarding diet and supplementation for optimum fertility support – our clinic will cut through this confusion and develop an individual and targeted nutritional plan specific to you.
Nutritional therapy is evidence-based, using the latest research into fertility available. The body is treated as a whole and this holistic approach may:
Support optimum egg and sperm health
Reduce the time it takes to conceive
Optimise the chances of conception
Reduce the risk of miscarriage
Support a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby
As part of your individual protocol, you will be provided with:
Nutritional guidelines for both pre-conception and pregnancy (these may change as you progress through your pregnancy)
Meal and snack ideas based on your food likes / dislikes and including foods which may support your fertility.
Tailored nutrition and lifestyle recommendations, including supplementation if deemed appropriate for you. Often, it can be just a few tweaks required here and there to diet and lifestyle habits but these tweaks can make all the difference.
Advice on the staging of follow up consultations
Whether you are currently considering a pregnancy, are receiving treatment to achieve a pregnancy (IUI, IVF, ICSI or undergoing Restorative Reproductive Medicine (RRM) practices) or are currently pregnant, nutritional therapy may support your body through all of the vital stages of childbirth from pre-conception to conception, pregnancy and the months immediately after.
As a working parent myself, I understand the challenges faced by 21st century families. Finding the time to shop, prepare and cook meals which suit your family’s (sometimes fussy) palettes, while meeting their nutritional requirements and fitting in around busy schedules is no mean feat. Add to this confusing food labels, conflicting media reports and bombardment from marketing and advertising campaigns and the result is frustration and confusion all around.
This is where Nutritional Therapy can help. When it comes to meal-times, convenience can go hand-in-hand with well-balanced nutritional foods to suit every palette (no matter how fussy), budget and lifestyle. Through working with our clinic you will receive:
Meal plans to help organise the week ahead and reduce food wastage
Recipes to suit all family members, even the fussiest-of-eaters
Shopping lists to simplify your weekly tasks
Healthy food swaps – your family’s favourites, only healthier!
Advice on food labels and how to decipher them
Simple ways to reduce the family’s sugar intake while maintaining regular (but healthier) treats
Depending on you and your family’s requirements, additional available services include cooking demonstrations and fridge / pantry revamp.
We currently offer two school programmes for both primary and secondary schools:
Food Labels and Added Sugars
This programme is ideally suited to children from 3rd class upwards and covers the following:
General overview of digestion
Brief summary of what blood sugars are
Recommended sugar intake versus actual intake
How to read food labels correctly to identify high sugar foods from low sugar foods
Practical exercise to measure (in teaspoons) sugar content of familiar foods and creation of visual aid for the class-room showing results
Stress Management Through Diet and Lifestyle
This programme is particularly relevant for 3rd and 6th year secondary school students as they face their state exams but is informative for other year groups also. It covers practical and simple ways in which students may help themselves through diet and lifestyle to manage their stress levels in the coming months. This information may also be presented to parents if requested.
If there is a particular topic you wish to be presented to children / young adults, please feel free to contact us to discuss further.
General Health and Well-Being
If you are reading this web-page, chances are you either have a health concern or you are not feeling quite yourself. Wanting to take back control of your health through diet and lifestyle is commendable and our clinic can help you do just that. Some of the most common issues we see in clinic include:
If you are experiencing any of the above then the good news is that in the vast majority of cases, these symptoms can be alleviated.
Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutritional science to promote optimum health, prevent disease and alleviate illness, aiming to identify & treat the root cause of illness, not merely the symptoms. The root cause is different for every individual and this is recognised in the holistic approach we take in our clinic. Individual nutritional requirements are subject to age, gender, genetic make-up, medical history, past and present dietary and lifestyle habits, environment, and other factors. Within our consultations we look at all of these factors to find the root cause of your health concerns and together with you, co-create realistic and practical diet and lifestyle measures to address the root cause.
Whether you have a specific health concern you wish to address, or merely wish to increase energy levels or lose weight, Nutritional Therapy may be your first step to achieving your individual health goals in an achievable and realistic manner. Your healthier tomorrow starts today.
