Food Labels and Added Sugars
This talk is ideally suited to children from 3rd class upwards and covers the following:
General overview of digestion
Brief summary of what blood sugars are
Recommended sugar intake versus actual intake
How to read food labels correctly to identify high sugar foods from low sugar foods
Practical exercise to measure (in teaspoons) sugar content of familiar foods and creation of visual aid for the class-room / corridor
Mental Health and Stress Management Through Diet and Lifestyle
This topic is particularly relevant for 3rd and 6th year students but is very useful for other year groups also. It covers practical advice on how students may manage their stress levels and support their mental health through diet and lifestyle. This talk:
identifies physical and mental sources of stress and the interaction between the two
discusses the different ways in which these may affect our health (both physically and mentally)
offers practical advice on how stress may be reduced to improve both physical and mental health.
This information may also be presented to parents if requested.
